The amount of LED amber lights installed on vehicles have been on the rise in the recent years due to the different variations of Amber LED lights available on the market. So we will quickly walk you through reasons why you need an Amber LED light on your vehicle.

Who needs an Amber beam light bar or Amber Light beam pod?

With the advantage of an LED Amber Beam being the ability to see better in foggy or snowy weather, Amber LED light bars are best for climates that see that a lot of snow or experience heavy fog conditions. However, just because you don't live in a snow ridden area like Colorado, it doesn't mean that you won't find an amber led light useful in a state like Pennsylvania.

Aurora-amber-led-light-bar-nissan-xterra

If you encounter ANY snow conditions or ANY fog conditions then it's a good practice to have an Amber LED light option on your vehicle. What most people fail to understand is that a LED light equipped with white light that is used in snowy or foggy conditions becomes unproductive due to the the reflective properties of the fog and snow.

To better understand this, have you ever walked outside on a sunny day when there is snow on the ground, what happens? When you walk outside you are instantly blinded by the sun because the sun light is reflecting off the snow on the ground. This is the same effect you get when when you turn your white LED lights on during snowy or foggy conditions.

Why Aurora Amber Light Bars and Amber Light pods are better than the competition?

What makes Aurora Amber light bars different from the competitors is that Aurora uses amber LED chips with a clear lens while everyone else uses white LED chips and an amber lens.

toyota-tundra-amber-light-bar-aurora-toyota-light-bar

Recently there has been a lot of companies introducing amber LED light bars with an amber lens which gives the product a good look, but it handicaps the overall functionality of the product. The problem with this method is that it restricts the amount of light that comes out of the amber light bar or amber light pod.

Aurora chooses to manufacture their products with amber LED chips and a clear lens because it allows the amber LED light to be brighter and push the beam further to help you navigate fog, snow and other inclement weather conditions.

Should you get a dedicated Amber light or an Amber light bar cover?

This is a very common question we get and it depends on the following two factors:

  1. Amber Light Bar Mounting space: How much space do you have?
    1. For some of us, mounting space comes at a premium, so if your space is limited you may have to do the amber light bar cover or amber light pod cover. If your vehicle has the space for an LED white light product and an Amber light product then having a dedicated Amber product would be best.
  2. Amber Light Bar Usage - How often will you get to use the light?
    1. If you live in an area like Washington were you encounter heavy levels of fog, then a dedicated LED amber light would be best.
    2. If you live in an area where snow or fog only happens a couple of times a year then a amber cover would be best. With Aurora's Amber snap on light bar covers or Aurora's Amber light pod covers you can easily pop the amber cover's on and off when needed.

Aurora LED Light Bar Beam Pattern In-Depth Guide

When it comes to underrated LED beam patterns, the Diffused Beam Pattern takes the gold medal. Since the Diffused Beam pattern is only offered in LED pods, most individuals go with the Flood Beam Pattern or the Spot Beam Pattern because they are more familiar with those beam patterns.

    aurora led light diffused lights

So what is a LED Diffused Light Beam ?

    Aurora diffused led light pod

The diffusion beam produces a softer light which gives the illusion of the light surrounding the obstacle as opposed to other beams which shine directly onto the obstacle which can create a glare. This pattern is produced by having  diffuser over the lens which scatters the light to create a softer light. This produces a pattern of approximately 100 degrees wide, with no defined edge.

    Aurora LED Diffused Light

    • Diffused LED Light Pod Disadvantages: Due to the wide angle of these beam these lights come with a limited light range.
    • Mounting Locations: These are great for an extra set of LED reverse lights, whether they be roof mounted or bumper mounted. They also make great LED fog lights which can me mounted on your bumper or custom mounted to fit in your factory fog light location.

    5. Flood Beam Pattern >>>

When it comes to beam patterns for LED light pods or LED cube lights the Flood beam pattern ranks high on the list for popularity. But do you really need a light pod equipped with a flood beam pattern?

aurora led spreader lights - boston whaler led flood lights

What is a Flood Beam pattern?

    aurora led flood beam pattern

This beam is wide, wide enough to illuminate the sides of the trail making obstacles easier to see which maximizes your safety. To accomplish such a uniform luminosity, an increased beam width is required which is accompanied by a decrease in distance.

    Aurora Flood Beam

Your traditional flood pattern in a LED light bar or LED light pod contains a beam width of 60 degrees.

Advantages and disadvantages of a LED Flood Beam Pattern

    • Advantages: Great for fast moving trails, curvy back country roads.
    • Disadvantages: Distance is the beams major drawback.
    • Mounting Locations: Best for front bumpers but it can be mounted on the roof as well. The downside to mounting lights with a flood beam pattern on your roof is that it can create a glare on your windshield and on your hood causing distortion in its true capabilities.

    Toyota tundra led flood lights

What are flood beam pattern LED lights NOT good for?

One trend that we continue to see is the integration of LED pod lights equipped with a flood beam pattern used as reverse lights. While it seams like a great idea it is not and that is because the beam will be focused down the road instead of around your vehicle.

When your in reverse you are typically moving around 5 MPH and your primary concern when backing up is the objects closest to your vehicle. So having a LED pod light with a flood beam throwing the light 1,000 feet down the road doesn't provide the light you need to spot obstacles. If you are looking for LED reverse lights then you need to look at the Aurora's Wide Angle Scene beam lights.
